God at Work at the 2026
Metro Detroit Power Camp

85 ATHLETES • 25 STAFF & VOLUNTEERS • 4 SPORTS • 4 DAYS

From July 27–30, Southeast Michigan FCA hosted our third annual Metro Detroit Power Camp at Faith Lutheran Church in Troy, Michigan. It was a week filled with competition, relationships, encouragement, and most importantly, opportunities for young athletes to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

This year, we had the privilege of serving 85 athletes and their families. Campers in 3rd through 8th grade trained and competed in soccer, flag football, beach volleyball, and basketball, supported by an incredible team of 25 staff members and volunteers.

Each day began with a 15-minute sport-specific warmup before campers came together for an opening message and prayer led by our camp chaplain. From there, athletes moved into practice sessions led by our clinicians, where they were challenged to improve their skills, compete with excellence, and encourage one another.

After practice came snack time and free play, followed by one of the most meaningful parts of each day: huddle time, athlete testimonies, and a final word of encouragement.

Power Camp is about more than becoming a better athlete. It is about creating an environment where young people can discover that their identity, purpose, and worth are found in Jesus Christ.

“Sport gives us an incredible platform, but the goal has always been bigger than sport.”

A Team Willing to Serve

A camp like this does not happen without people who are willing to invest their time, energy, gifts, and hearts into the next generation.

We are incredibly grateful for our huddle leaders: Jordan Crump, Nico Taormina, Kendal Frank, Jayden Boudreaux, Luke Reyes, Angelina Marchesi, Amelia Powell, Victoria Prater, Abigail Denha, Jaclyn Denha, and Chris Woolen (FCA staff).

Thank you for showing up each day ready to serve. We saw the Lord work in you and through you as you encouraged campers, built relationships, shared your faith, and modeled what it looks like to follow Christ.

We are also grateful for our lead clinicians, Jeremy Denha, Sam Franjione, Ginny Busse, and Ibrahim Byakika (FCA staff), who provided top-notch instruction and motivation throughout the week. Their commitment to excellence gave our athletes the opportunity to grow in both skill and confidence.

Our campers, staff, and volunteers did an outstanding job all week. And we are thankful for God's provision as well. The weather stayed in our favor, and we were blessed to finish camp without any major injuries.

Keeping Christ at the Center

A special thank-you goes to our camp chaplain, Matt Schuler, who did an outstanding job setting the spiritual tone for the week and providing a meaningful closing message each day.

In the middle of drills, competition, laughter, and new friendships, campers were consistently reminded that there is something bigger than the scoreboard.

Jesus Christ changes everything.

That message came alive throughout the week as athletes heard testimonies, spent time in huddles, asked questions, prayed together, and were challenged to consider what it means to follow Jesus.

Most importantly, we saw God move in the lives of our campers, with many young athletes making first-time commitments to Christ or rededicating their lives to Him.

That is why we do what we do.

We want to see coaches and athletes transformed by Jesus Christ and using their influence to impact others for His glory. Sport gives us an incredible platform, but the goal has always been bigger than sport. We want young people to know Jesus, grow in their faith, and become disciples who make disciples.

Grateful for Our FCA and Faith Lutheran Teams

We are deeply thankful for our Metro Detroit FCA staff—May Boudreaux, Austin Molan, Chris Woolen, Rachel Everett, Jackson Allen, Ibrahim Byakika, and Adrian Holcomb—along with volunteers April Lee and Frantzie Beauduy, who stepped into countless roles throughout the week to make camp possible.

From planning and preparation to setup, communication, coaching, huddles, logistics, cleanup, and everything in between, this team served with excellence.

We are also especially grateful for the partnership of the Faith Lutheran Church staff: Jeff Olson, Erin Roenicke, and Laurie Guidry. They truly locked arms with us and added tremendous value to the week. Their hospitality, flexibility, and commitment to serving young people helped create an environment where ministry could flourish.

More Than a Camp

When we look back on this year's Metro Detroit Power Camp, the numbers matter.

85 Athletes. 25 Staff & Volunteers. 4 Sports. 4 Days Together.

But behind every number is a young person.

A conversation. A relationship. A seed planted. A life that God is shaping.

We are grateful for every parent who entrusted their child to us, every volunteer who chose to serve, every clinician who invested in an athlete, every ministry partner who helped make the opportunity possible, and every prayer that was lifted up before and during the week.

Most of all, we give God the glory for what He accomplished.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the third annual Metro Detroit Power Camp a reality. We are already looking forward to what God will do next as we continue to reach coaches and athletes throughout Southeast Michigan with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
